TWO people are fighting for their lives after two cars collided on the corner of Plenty Rd and Nicholson Ave, in Reservoir.

Paramedics were treating the patients at the scene, .

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said both cars were heading north, in the same direction, when they collided and each hit a pole head-on.

A man in his 70s and a man in his mid 20s were taken to hospital with life-threatening head and chest injuries.

Children and families attending sporting matches at a nearby complex had to walk around the two cars that landed 100m apart on the footpath.

Sen-Sgt Roger Knight, from Preston police, said the Major Collision Squad was investigating and police were calling for witnesses.

“We have no idea what’s happened,” he said.

“Some people heard the crash but nobody saw it.”
