Australia Somali Award Night 2011- Melbourne

Victoria Parliament hosted tonight the Somali Education Graduates and Community Awards. The award ceremony was organized by Somali Australian Friendship Association SAFA. This is the second time SAFA has organized this event in the Parliament house. Nearly 200 guests fill the Queen’s Hall, among them were 60 University TAFE and High School graduates also  Community Volunteers and achievement in sport was also recognized.

Some of the special guest speakers included Anthony Carbines  MP State member for Ivanhoe who was also Sponsor of the event,  Hon: Maria Vamvakinnou,  MP Federal member for Calwell, chair of standing Committee on Migration and Abdul Ayan who was the first Somali person to arrive in Australia in the 70s. The president of  SAFA, Yusuf Omar was among many guest speakers.
